A wired Ethernet cable still beats Wi-Fi for most gaming. More stable latency, fewer random spikes, less interference from walls, neighbours and kitchen kit. If the PC can sit near a router or wall port, plug it in.
Modern Wi-Fi (especially Wi-Fi 6 and a decent router) is fine for browsing, streaming and many online games when the signal is strong. Weak signal shows up as rubber-banding, voice chat dropouts and “ping is fine until it is not.” A USB or PCIe Wi-Fi adapter only helps if the antenna and placement are better than what you have now. It will not fix a rubbish path to the router.
Cannot run a cable? Options include a longer Ethernet run, powerline adapters (hit and miss depending on house wiring) or mesh Wi-Fi. When you enquire, say how the PC will connect at home. We will say if onboard Ethernet is enough or if a Wi-Fi card is worth adding.
